Data Centre
Unified Fabric
A typical data centre supports two or three parallel networks: one for data, one for storage, and possibly one for server clustering. In addition, servers often have dedicated interfaces for management, backup, or virtual machine live migration, increasing costs in equipment, cabling, space, power and cooling.
An intelligent unified switching fabric consolidates these different types of traffic onto a single, general-purpose, high-performance, highly available network that greatly simplifies network infrastructure and reduces costs.
Cisco data centre 3.0 includes a range of high performing, scalable and easily manageable data centre switching solutions. They offer improved energy efficiency, a zero loss architecture and advanced switching technologies such as Fibre-Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) and Data Centre Ethernet (DCE). These technologies enable data centre administrators to combine their SAN and LAN environments into a single unified fabric and therefore reduce energy requirements and increase investment efficiency.
