Virtualisation

Virtualisation dramatically improves efficiency and availability of resources and applications.  Internal resources are typically underutilised under the "old one server, one application" model. For example, a server running Microsoft Windows will be utilised at approximately 7-15% loading. In addition moving an application on a physical server takes time, down time and man hours.

In a virtualised environment, utilisation is significantly improved by deploying a number of virtual servers on a single physical server and a virtual server move can be completed in a matter of minutes with the possibility of incurring no downtime whatsoever.

ONI's data centre solutions comprises a comprehensive portfolio of virtualisation technologies and services that bring network, computer/storage, and virtualisation platforms closer together to provide unparalleled flexibility, visibility, and policy enforcement. The result of virtualisation is a highly available, scalable, agile and operationally efficient environment which reduces the power, cooling and space requirements of the modern data centre.

This flexibility ultimately will allow organisations to begin to offer 'cloud computing'.  Cloud computing enables applications to be offered as a service, whereby the end user sees only a single point of entry to the application even though the application is being run on a number of virtual servers.
